St. Brendan High Alumni Association Mission Statement: "The St. Brendan High Alumni Association is dedicated to supporting and strengthening the St. Brendan High School family of alumni, faculty, students, and friends." Our History In 1975, Saint Brendan High School opened its doors to students for the first time on the campus of the Saint John Vianney Seminary on Southwest 87th Avenue in Miami, Florida. In its first year, St. Brendan graduated just two students. In fact, the first full class did not graduate until 1978. For the past thirty years, St. Brendan has graduated thousands of students in the Sabre tradition. Still young compared to its peers, a focus on alumni relations did not begin until the late 1990s. In 1999, when St. Brendan’s founding principal Father Thomas Dennehy passed away, a group of dedicated alumni came together to create the Father Dennehy Memorial Fund (FDMF). The Fund would be dedicated to raising funds from Sabre Alumni to support current St. Brendan students & families in urgent need. When a student and their family found themselves in an urgent situation that caused them to potentially leave the St. Brendan community, the FDMF would step in with financial assistance. The FDMF is governed by an independent Board of Directors comprised of St. Brendan alumni, faculty, and administration. Since its founding, the Fund has supported over a dozen students who have gone on to graduate from St. Brendan and go on to successful college careers. Thru the efforts of the Dennehy Fund, more and more alumni began to step forward eager to support their alma mater, asking what else they could do to give back. In 2005, the Board of Directors of the FDMF took it upon themselves to form the Saint Brendan High Alumni Association (SBHAA). The Association officially began in conjunction with the 30th Anniversary of St. Brendan High School during the 2005-2006 school year. Several alumni came forward and joined as Founding Members of the Association. They along with the newly formed Board of Directors, began a new tradition of Alumni involvement at St. Brendan High. Since 2005, the SBHAA has supported various initiatives such as endowment of the Father Dennehy Memorial Fund; Homecoming Week; Sabre Success: Career Days; Student Leadership Retreats; Distinguished Alumni Award; and other student initiatives. The SBHAA encourages everyone in the Sabre community to get involved and give back to our alma mater. Your ideas and suggestions are welcome, please feel free to share your thoughts thru this website. The St. Brendan High Alumni Association supports the annual "Sabre Success Career Days" at St. Brendan High. This offers a unique opportunity for Sabre Alumni to come back to campus and interact with students on their personal/professional success stories. The two day event will occur on April 3-4, 2008 between the school hours of 8am-230pm. Classes are 45min long. The event is coordinated by fellow Sabre Alumni and current St. B teacher Sarah Prieto. If you are interested in participating, please contact Sarah at sprieto@stbhs.org and she will email you more information. This is an excellent opportunity for all Sabres to come back and give back to our alma mater. Thank you for your consideration. We are the Sabre Pride!!!
